Clive Holland

Clive has been an actor, writer, director, producer, workshop leader, creator and all-round good egg for over thirty years. From his only line, “Three pieces of orange peel,” in the school production of Tom Sawyer to the immortal “She is a vampire and must be stopped” as Professor Van Helsing in a recent national tour of Dracula for Proteus Theatre, Clive has remained professional and playful to the core.

He has toured extensively in the UK and abroad for companies including Third Party, Cartoon De Salvo, Full Belt and Quicksilver, in parts such as Flamineo (The White Devil), Estragon (Waiting for Godot), Jimmy Porter (Look Back in Anger) and the Porter (Macbeth). He has also worked in television, film, video and circus.

As a writer he has had a number of plays produced and performed including The Milestone Inspector, a tale of life and death in the fens of Lincolnshire (Neti-Neti Theatre), Silk, Spices and Spirits, a salty tale of smuggling (Forest Forge), Jolly Jack’s Big Adventure, another play with a nautical flavour (Solent People’s Theatre/New Wolseley), an adaptation of The Canterbury Tales (Third Party) and most recently Death in Ramsgate, a ridiculous and dark tale of death aboard the steam tug Cervia for the Squally Players of Ramsgate Arts.

Clive co-founded and was joint Artistic Director of SCAT Theatre in the 1980s with Nick Downes, co-writer of The Con Man and produced over twenty new shows. Using mask, mime, puppetry, pathos, a very large smattering of visual and verbal comedy, strong story-lines and an ethos of experimentation, an exciting, distinctive and mischievous style emerged which is at the heart of Clive’s work today.
