Suzy Humphries

Suzy has worked in the arts for a long time, beginning by going to ballet school aged 11 and ending up running a theatre company, arts organisations and projects. For 10 years she was the Director of the Theatre Royal Haymarket Masterclass programme in London and she has recently given up the post to focus on freelance work as a producer and consultant in developing creative businesses, fundraising and event management.

Past work includes setting up and managing Barnardo’s Big Toddle, the charity’s national fundraising event, running and re-conceiving Starlab, an arts education project with Inter-Action Professor Dogg’s Troupe, writing a celebrity and stakeholder engagement strategy for Diabetes UK, fundraising for Montage Theatre Arts in Lewisham and running Take Part, Take Pride, a community festival for the London Borough of Sutton.

Most recently she has set up Ramsgate Arts with a collective who are committed to producing quality arts activities in Thanet and in August 2010 produced A Summer Squall, the area’s first multi-arts festival. She has also taken a first step in to retail, opening Nice Things, an idealistic and pretty shop/gallery on Ramsgate Harbour, working primarily with East Kent artists and makers.

She is a practical soul and has painted scenery, made costumes, loaded vans, set up marquees and believes in getting the job done, doing whatever you have to and having fun at the same time.
