The Sagas of Noggin the Nog
Co-production with Third Party Productions.Third Party and Mischievous Theatre created The Sagas of Noggin the Nog, based on the original stories by Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate which were shown on the BBC in the 1960s. We re-imagined the first two televised tales; the first adventure tells how Noggin the Nog becomes king and thwarts Nogbad the Bad and the second, King Noggin and the mighty Thornogson travel north and confront the fearsome ice dragon and the dastardly deeds of Nogbad the Bad once again. We travelled the length and breadth of the UK during 5 national tours over six years. We performed in village halls, community centres, arts centres, theatres great and small and at numerous arts festivals. We conceived the project as a show for all ages, 5 to 105, a genuine U, a universal rating; we had four generations of a family at one performance, a row of older citizens who had made tin foil helmets, woollen plaits, carried swords and chanted for Noggin at another. There was a genuine warmth for the silly Vikings, the puppets, the projection, the live music and a real sense of community even in the largest venue.
Directed by John Wright.
The cast changed over the years, here they all are:
Tony Gleave, Nick Collett, Grace Collett, Max Mackintosh, Harry Emerson, Kevin James, Matt Steer, Dennis Herdman, Clive Holland, Dominic Phillips.
“It’s a close call as to who enjoys it more, the children or their grandparents.
An expertly acted, beautifully realised stage play with the warm charm of a bedtime story.”
“Mixing techniques and moving the action between performers and puppets, this is a hugely skilful yet deceptively simple production, which engages with all ages.”
“Better than Hamilton!”
